Would you pay extra for Download’s guest area?
Ever come home from Download and find yourself missing the catch-ups as much as the bands? The mates you only see in festival fields, the familiar faces and the conversations that carry on until somebody remembers there’s a set to get to.
For Festpod episode 91, Neill, Arran and Rob settle into the guest area on day two of Download Festival 2026. There’s a Friday recap to get through, but first - would we pay extra to spend the weekend like this?
A little more space goes a long way
One of the things we appreciate about the guest area is having room to stop and chat. Away from the busy arena, there’s a chance to catch your breath, spot someone you know and have a proper catch-up.
That gets us talking about R.I.P., guest camping and the comforts that can make a festival weekend easier. A birthday campervan treat comes into the conversation, along with showers and proper toilets.
The danger, of course, is getting used to it. Once you’ve had a taste of those comforts, going back to your usual camping setup might take some convincing. If you’re already a happy camper, though, crack on.
Friday favourites and a busy arena
We do get round to the music. There’s a quick look back at vianova, Pendulum and Electric Callboy, including the wind affecting the sound during Pendulum and the enthusiasm for Electric Callboy.
Getting between stages is another talking point. The arena feels busy, and making your way across it becomes part of the day’s effort.
Meanwhile, the wind has a go at our recording setup too. Festival coverage keeps you on your toes.
Festival fashion, food and hardly any sleep
There’s time for a bit of Arran Core (Arran’s approach to festival outfits) before food prices and the shortage of sleep enter the conversation.
It’s a familiar festival combination. Plenty you want to do, plenty of people you want to see, and nowhere near enough hours spent asleep.
Then Bailey from Within Reach appears for a quick hello. Before long, we’ve had to take a break because more people we know have turned up and we can’t help stopping for a chat.
The catch-ups are part of the weekend
That interruption gets to the heart of this episode. Download gives us a chance to meet people properly, reconnect with mates and spend time with people we usually only cross paths with briefly.
Towards the end, we spot Architects’ Sam Carter nearby and discuss a reported last-minute stage change for As Everything Unfolds, including what a move to a bigger stage could mean for the crew and their preparations.
Watch or listen to Festpod 91 for the full catch-up from Download’s guest area. Whether you were there or missed this year, come and spend a bit of time in the field with us.
